Samsung has now officially announced that it is scrapping the Galaxy J series and replacing it with the newly-introduced Galaxy A series, as reported previously. While the exact reason for the move is unclear, Samsung might be planning on making its smartphone lineup less confusing for users. The confirmation comes from Samsung Malaysia's official YouTube channel through a short promotional teaser for the recently-launched Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A50. Samsung's J series is a budget range in markets such as India and some parts of Europe.
Samsung has been facing severe competition from Xiaomi, Huawei, and ASUS over the past two years, especially in the budget and mid-range segments. With the new Galaxy A series, Samsung brings modern features like triple rear cameras, in-display fingerprint sensor, and Infinity AMOLED display to the sub-Rs 20,000 price segment in a bid to attract the younger audience. The smartphones in the A series also boast of big batteries with fast charging, upgraded designs, and better build quality. The Samsung Galaxy A 2019 lineup so far includes the Galaxy A10, Galaxy A20, Galaxy A30, Galaxy A50, Galaxy A70.
Samsung is currently readying to launch the Galaxy A90 (though the phone could be called Galaxy A80 instead) at an event on April 10th. The upcoming mid-ranger from Samsung is expected to feature Qualcomm's unannounced mid-range Snapdragon 7150 chipset ticking at its core, and likely to pack a 6.7-inch OLED display with full-HD+ (1,080 x 2,400 pixels) resolution. It will have triple rear cameras consisting of a 48-megapixel main sensor with f/2.0 aperture, 8-megapixel (f/2.4) secondary sensor, and a third Time-of-Flight (TOF) lens with f/1.2 for depth effect. The handset will be fuelled by a 3,700mAh battery with 25W PD fast-charging. Furthermore, the Galaxy A90 will come with a pop-up rotating camera and will use screen sound technology for its display to function like a speaker and an earpiece.
