ASUS smartphone with model number ASUS_I01WD spotted on NCC; could be ZenFone 6

ASUS may not have been present at the MWC 2019 last month, it did announce the launch of the ZenFone 6 in a promotional material handed out along with the press passes at the event. Since then, the interwebs have been abuzz with rumours surrounding the device. Recently, an alleged image of the ZenFone 6 gave us the sneak peek of the upcoming handset. Now, a new ASUS phone has stopped by Taiwan's National Communications Commission (NCC), which is presumed to be the ZenFone 6.

The smartphone spotted on the NCC website is seen sporting the model number ASUS_I01WD. However, the listing hasn't revealed anything else about the upcoming smartphone. While it's being speculated that this could be ZenFone 6, it could also be either the ZenFone 6Z or ZenFone 6 Lite, which are expected to be launched alongside. Notably, the same model number was also spotted on the Wi-Fi Alliance website last month revealing the software version to be Android 9 Pie and Wi-Fi 802.11ac connectivity. 

The aforementioned promo material had revealed that the ZenFone 6 will be equipped with a full-screen display and extremely narrow bezels, hinting at sliding design or an elevating selfie camera. The tagline on the advertisement reads "Defy Ordinary", which is all the more reason to believe that the Taiwanese brand might opt for the sliding or pop-up route with the selfie camera. The recently-leaked images reveal a triple-camera module as well as an attractive gradient finish on the upcoming smartphone. Surprisingly, the pictures of the retail box of the handset show a physical fingerprint scanner on the ZenFone 6, placed on the bottom bezel. This contradicts the fact the phone will be having an all-display fascia, so we suggest taking this information with a pinch of salt.

We will get to know more about the upcoming smartphone in May, when the company officially announces the lineup, so stay tuned.
