According to a TechCrunch report, a spokesperson from Meta has mailed the publication confirming that Instagram, the Meta-owned app, is testing the feature that will enable users to reshare posts in their Feeds. "We're exploring the ability to reshare posts in Feed – similar to how you can reshare in Stories – so people can share what resonates with them, and so original creators are credited for their work[…] We plan to test this soon with a small number of people."
The screenshot shared by Matt discloses that the new repost feature is the latest way to share with followers and users will find the Repost feature in the share option of a post or reel. It further reveals that users can recommend certain posts to their friends by reposting them to their feed or story that they may enjoy. It also claims that the new feature might help users ignite a conversation with their followers as they can reply to reposts with a message. Moreover, before sharing any repost, users might also have the option of adding a caption to it.
Until now users could only share other users' posts or reels by adding them to their story which expires in 24 hours, or using a third-party app to show the post on their profile. But the new repost feature will give users an edge by having another option of sharing a post or a reel to their profiles as a permanent post without the use of an external app. Apparently, both TikTok and Twitter also have a similar features of their own.
Instagram has been up with the testing of a lot of new features lately including a feature that is copying a famous new social media app, a feature to test ultra-tall photos, a feature of turning all Instagram videos into reels, feature to test a new TikTok-like fullscreen experience for its feed, and so on.
