Redmi K30 reportedly powered by MediaTek 5G SoC

Redmi K30 is confirmed to be the company’s first 5G smartphone yet, as a standalone brand. It will come with support for both SA and NSA networks and feature a punch-hole design with a sizeable cutout on the top right corner to accommodate dual selfie cameras. Now, China-based blogger ‘Digital Chat Station’ on Weibo has hinted that the Redmi K30 with 5G would be powered by a MediaTek chipset. To recall, MediaTek announced the Helio M70 5G modem with sub-6GHz 5G speeds earlier this year and will start shipping to manufacturers this quarter. Given that Xiaomi’s standalone brand opted for Helio G90T gaming SoC for its recent Redmi Note 8 Pro, it won’t be a surprise if Redmi’s newfound interest in MediaTek chipsets expands to Redmi K30 as well.

The dual 5G support means that it’ll work with both SA (Standalone mode) and the NSA (Non-standalone mode) networking while the latter relies on existing LTE mode for tasks like communication between cell towers and servers. Redmi’s GM Lu Weibing also revealed that the phone wouldn’t be cheaper, and hinted that it might cost above RMB 2,000 price tag in China. Unfortunately, nothing about the Redmi K30 is known at the moment, but since leaks started coming in, we might stumble on more information soon.

To recall, the Redmi K20 series was launched in India back in July. Both the phones flaunt a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with 1,080 x 2,340 pixels screen resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. They are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. There is also a 7th-gen in-display fingerprint sensor, a pop-up selfie camera and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 layer on top. In terms of optics, the Redmi K20-series come with triple camera setup consisting of a 48MP primary sensor, an ultra-wide-angle lens and depth unit.
