Sony hints towards the launch of a 5G-enabled variant of the Xperia XZ3 soon

Earlier this year’s IFA in Berlin, Sony unveiled its latest Xperia XZ series flagship smartphone dubbed the Xperia XZ3. The phone arrived with a Snapdragon 845 SoC and a Qualcomm X20 modem for connectivity features. Notably, the Qualcomm X20 Modem inside the Xperia XZ3 offers 2gbps of speed, but it doesn’t deliver the 5G networking. However, now it appears that Sony is planning to launch a new variant of the Xperia XZ3 in the coming days. This could be amongst the first smartphones to deliver 5G connectivity.

Sony has just tweeted on its news channel on Twitter that “5G is coming! Enjoy ultra-fast connectivity and enhanced experiences with the Xperia #XZ3”. This clearly suggests that the Japanese tech giant could be working on a new variant of its latest flagship that will offer the next-gen 5G connectivity options. Sadly, the tweet hasn’t revealed anything regarding the brand’s plans for its first 5G-enabled handset at the moment.

It’s worth mentioning that Qualcomm successfully demonstrated 5G connectivity a while ago. This was achieved on a device’s prototype utilising Snapdragon X50 5G modem, which was unveiled a long time ago in 2016. Notably, as per the chipset maker, more than 18 mobile makers are utilising its Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem tech for their upcoming 5G smartphones. Some of these vendors include Xiaomi, Nokia, HTC, OPPO, etc.

As far as the current Sony Xperia XZ3 model is concerned, the phone will go on sale in major markets by the end of this month. The handset will be available in White Silver, Black, Bordeaux Red, and Forest Green hues, but there’s no word regarding the phone’s pricing at the moment.
