Uber Group Rides: what is it

With group rides, you can basically share the same cab if you’re heading to a common destination. This works even if your pickup locations are different. You can share the details of the group ride with your friends through messaging apps. Once you start a group ride, each friend can add their pickup location to the group ride.

How to book a group ride on Uber

  • Open the Uber app and select ‘Services’ from the tab below.
  • Tap on ‘Group Ride’ and add your final drop-off location.
  • Then you’ll have the option to invite people to join the group ride.
  • A link will be sent out with the group ride details.
  • Your friends will have to add their respective stops.
  • Then a driver will be assigned, and your trip will begin.

In addition to saving up to 30 percent of the fare, this feature is also aimed at decongesting roads without the need of individual cabs for groups heading to the same destination. Uber also highlights that group rides will not impact the driver’s earnings, and that they would earn the same amount according to their route.

You can start booking Uber group rides in India from its Android and iOS apps.
