“Soon you will be able to download YouTube videos on your devices to watch them without data connectivity”
In addition to the launch of first set of Android One smartphones, the search engine giant Google has also announced that YouTube will be adding offline support in India in the coming weeks. Users in the country will be able to save YouTube videos to watch them offline without the need of a data connection. As per Caesar Sengupta, VP of Product Management at Google, the new move is aimed at serving users in India in a better manner, where consistent cellular data connectivity isn't always available.
With the YouTube offline feature, users will be able to download a video on Wi-Fi and save it on their devices to watch it whenever and wherever they want. It will be easy to save your favourite content that you watch frequently, without having to pay for data. It's also not clear if all the YouTube videos will be available to store offline, specifically commercially-made videos like TV shows, movies and music videos. We will know more when the offline mode rolls out in the coming weeks.
The company has also announced that Google Play Newsstand, which brings together all the news from different publications on single platform, will now support Indian publications. Starting tomorrow, you will have access to news from 30 Indian publications. In addition, Google Now will soon offer information about trains and cricket scores in India.
