- OnePlus 9 series reportedly will not feature periscope zoom lens on any of the models
- OnePlus 9 launch is expected in March next year
- The brand has been tipped to launch at least three models in the OnePlus 9 series
The OnePlus 9 series launch is reportedly happening in March 2021, with the rumour mill going full throttle churning out new details every other day. The latest word about the OnePlus 9 specifications and features is that the upcoming smartphone will not feature a periscope lens. In fact, according to well-known tipster Digital Chat Station, none of the models in the series will feature periscope zoom lens. While the leaked OnePlus 9 design didn’t show a periscope lens, the nod from this reliable tipster seemingly cements the lack of the popular zoom feature seen on flagship offerings from Huawei, Xiaomi, Samsung, OPPO, Realme, etc. For those of you who are unaware, a periscope lens is used in smartphones to offer enhanced optic zoom capabilities.
While the periscope lens has been used mostly on top-of-the-line flagship models from brands, Realme has shown that the feature could be included in a mid-range offering with its Realme X3 SuperZoom. As OnePlus has built its brand from the ground up by offering premium features at budget, it does come as a surprise that the brand will be opting out of this feature with the flagship OnePlus 9. On the other hand, there are rumours that the OnePlus 9 camera setup will include Leica-branded lenses.
OnePlus 9 leaked specifications
The OnePlus 9 specifications will reportedly include a 6.55-inch FHD+ (1,080 x 2,400p) panel with 120Hz display refresh rate and 20:9 aspect ratio. On the software side, you can expect Android 11-based OxygenOS out of the box. The handset has been tipped to come with a 4,500mAh battery and 65W fast-charging support. It will reportedly also support 30W wireless charging and reverse charging.
On the optics front, the OnePlus 9 is said to feature a 50MP primary wide-angle sensor (f/1.79), which will reportedly be marketed as ‘UltraVision’ and will be coupled with a 20MP Cine ultra-wide sensor (f/1.8) and a 12MP telephoto sensor with a large f/3.4 aperture and OIS.
The OnePlus 9 price is expected to start around $600 (about Rs 45,000).
