- Redmi K40 launch is expected in February
Redmi K40 launch is rumoured to be in February and there have been reports that the smartphone will come with the MediaTek Dimensity 1200. However, well-known tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed that there could be another variant of the phone which may rock the all-new Snapdragon 870 SoC under the hood. The tipster on Chinese micro-blogging website Weibo posted that the Redmi K40 will be announced with an ‘unreleased sub-flagship processor’. The tipster also reiterated that the Redmi K40 Pro, which is expected to launch alongside the vanilla K40, will be powered by Snapdragon 888 SoC and will be priced at around Rs 34,000 in the country.
The Snapdragon 870 SoC that was announced this week is a sub-flagship processor from Qualcomm, which is positioned below Snapdragon 888 SoC. The chipset comes with incrementally improved performance, connectivity, and efficiency from the Snapdragon 865+ SoC. Xiaomi announced its support for the chipset, and it seems like Redmi K40 could be the first smartphone from the brand with the Snapdragon 870 SoC.
Redmi K40 series launch
Xiaomi hasn’t announced the Redmi K40 launch date yet, but the company has confirmed that the series will make its debut in China in February. The lineup is said to include a mid-range Redmi K40 smartphone and a couple of flagship smartphones, allegedly dubbed as Redmi K40 Pro and K40 Pro Zoom Edition.
Redmi K40 series specifications
As stated above, the regular Redmi K40 will be powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC and we may see a variant with the Snapdragon 870 chipset, while the Redmi K40 Pro model will rock the Snapdragon 888 SoC under the hood. The Redmi K40 series is also said to come with a battery bigger than 4,000mAh that is rated to last up to 35 hours on a single charge, 120Hz AMOLED display, 5G support, and at least 6GB RAM. The Redmi K40 is rumoured to employ a pop-up selfie mechanism, whereas the K40 Pro may flaunt a punch-hole display.
