MIUI 13 has officially been announced by Xiaomi in India. It’s the same as the global version, which means the custom ROM is missing a few features that are there in MIUI 13 China version. Xiaomi claims that the MIUI 13 Global version has been designed to offer an enhanced user experience while also improving efficiency and personalisation. Key MIUI 13 features include faster storage, higher background process efficiency, smarter processing, and longer battery life. Here’s a quick look at MIUI 13 update features, rollout schedule, and compatible device list, among other things.

MIUI 13 update release date in India and rollout schedule

Xiaomi launched the MIUI 13 in India on February 3rd. The update has started rolling out to several compatible Redmi, Xiaomi, and POCO smartphones in the country.

MIUI 13 update download

The MIUI 13 update will be available for download to compatible devices via the OTA update. You can check your notification panel or your phone’s Settings –> Software update to download MIUI 13 on your device.

MIUI 13 features

The list of MIUI 13 update India version features are as follows:

1. Optimised File Storage system

Liquid Storage

This new feature reduces the fragmentation of the device’s read and write storage speed, which can slow down over time. The Optimised File Storage system (dubbed globally as Liquid Storage) on MIUI 13 offers a new system-level method of managing the ways files are stored on devices. It actively manages the stored data and improves defragmentation efficiency by up to 60 percent. Additionally, with Liquid Storage, MIUI 13 helps devices retain up to 95 percent of the read and write speeds even after 36 months compared to other Android OS.

2. RAM Optimisation

RAM Optimisation or Atomized Memory is an ultra-fine memory management method that brings RAM efficiency to a new level. The feature is rated to analyse how apps use memory and divide a single app’s RAM usage processes into important and unimportant tasks. The unimportant tasks are then closed, thereby improving the overall device’s performance.

3. Focused Algorithms

Focused Algorithms drives CPU performance to important tasks for faster speeds and higher performance. In Xiaomi’s words, this MIUI 13 feature “dynamically allocates system resources based on usage scenarios, making the system more fluid and responsive. Without Focused Algorithms, smartphone processors distribute resources across all of your apps relatively equally.”

4. Smart Balance

Smart Balance is a nifty little feature on MIUI 13 that is said to improve your device’s overall battery life by up to 10 percent. The feature achieves this by automatically finding the balance between performance and power consumption.

5. Sidebar and Widgets

Much like Samsung devices, you can now access your favourite apps in floating windows on Xiaomi devices running MIUI 13 with just a swipe. This is perfect for multitaskers that want an easier way to pull up multiple apps at once, or quickly swap between them,” claims the company. The Sidebar feature is customizable and supports up to 10 apps.

Sidebar

Widgets on Android mobile phones aren’t anything new, but MIUI 13 allows you to adjust their sizes in various formats. With 2×1, 2×2, 2×3, 4×2, and 4×4 options at hand, users can fit more important information on a single widget and place widgets where they may not have fit before.

MIUI 13 features (China)

As for the Chinese version of MIUI 13, here are its core features

1. Faster performance

MIUI-13-Master-Lu-fluency-test

The MIUI 13 is said to be significantly faster than the previous-gen MIUI 12.5. There are better app fluency with 15 percent fewer drop frames in third-party apps and 23 percent fewer drop frames in native apps when compared to the previous release. The MIUI 13 has been rated to be the best in Master Lu’s fluency test, beating Android skin from other OEMs. The MIUI 13 also brings improved multitasking capabilities. Xiaomi claims that the Android skin lets you have up to 14 apps open in the background on a flagship device at any given time.

2. Enhanced privacy protection

Xiaomi has added new privacy-focused features, like face verification protection, privacy watermarking, and electronic fraud protection, on MIUI 13 as well. While the details of these features remain vague at the moment, going by their names it looks like the privacy watermarking will let you add a watermark to your images or scanned documents to prevent misuse. Electronic fraud detection, meanwhile, will identify websites and devices that might bring malware. Additionally, the MIUI 13 has a full phonebook of numbers that will be saved as nefarious, and the user of the phone will be informed before he accepts the call.

3. MiSans, new system font

MIUI-13-MiSans

The new system font is another key highlight of Xiaomi’s latest custom skin. The MIUI 13 offers MiSans font that simplifies letters, signs, and numbers, as well as automatically adjusts the height of hyphens to uppercase and lowercase letters, among other things. The font is commercially free to download.

4. New widgets

The all-new MIUI 13 also includes support for widgets such as “Super Countdown Day” and “Water Measuring Cup” that offers an iOS 15-like experience. These widgets can be added to the home screen and customised in different sizes.

    5. Support for Mi Pad

    MIUI-13-Pad

Xiaomi has also announced MIUI 13 for its large screen Android devices. Dubbed as MIUI 13 Pad, it comes with some additional features such as app optimisation, a new shortcut to quickly switch between full screen and windowed modes, window scaling, a global taskbar with drag and drops support for multitasking, and more. There are a bunch of keyboard shortcuts to enhance productivity as well.

The MIUI update for Xiaomi smartwatches, smart home devices, and smart TVs have also been introduced. This is said to bring a “seamless and natural flow of content between devices,” the company said.

In addition to this, the all-new MIUI 13 also brings Customizable Xiao AI Virtual Assistant (exclusive to China) and Mi Magic centre. The latter will help users manage their multiple Xiaomi products from a single place.

    MIUI 13 wallpaper

MIUI 13 also comes with a 43 static and a bunch of new live wallpapers as well. The live ones showcase crystal formation, which Xiaomi claims were captured using a polarisation microscope via 8K time-lapse photography. While these wallpapers come pre-loaded with MIUI 13, you can sideload them (at least the static wallpapers) on your device right now. XDA Developers have extracted MIUI 13 wallpapers from the Android skin firmware, most of which come in at a 2,400×1,230 resolution.

You can head over to the following link to download MIUI 13 wallpapers on your device. The wallpapers are divided into five categories: Molten Glass, Crystallisation, Concerto, Natural Texture, and the Black Gobi, added the XDA’s report.
