WhatsApp is reportedly working on an update that might just please users. It’s one that will stop you from using the third-party WhatsApp apps. According to the latest beta update for iPhones, WhatsApp is testing a themes feature that will let you choose among five colour options including the default green. This customisation is still limited in classic WhatsApp fashion but it’s still a big step for the company.

WhatsApp themes in the works

  • The latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.1.10.70 update comes with a new feature for themes, according to WABetaInfo. There’s now a new section under ‘Appearance’ for app colour.
  • There are five colours to choose from — green, blue, white, pink and purple. Choosing any of these will change the main branding colour of the app.
  • It isn’t clear how much of the app’s UI will change with the new themed colour but it would be a big change from the regular green that we’ve been seeing for years.
  • WhatsApp did change the interface recently with a new green colour, and a more minimalist look. It looks like the company wants to give users more customisation options.

From the screenshot we can see the new themed WhatsApp on iOS. Here, certain indications like the Status Updates, and time have been changed to pink. So don’t expect a complete changeover of the WhatsApp with the new theme. The majority is still the light or dark background according to your app’s setting on your phone.

For now, this feature has been spotted on the beta app for iOS, and it’s still in early development so even public beta testers won’t be able to experience it yet. But we’re expecting WhatsApp to release it soon for the stable version, and for the Android version as well.
