“Mi MIX Alpha has a crazy design and a crazy price tag!”
Mi MIX Alpha was recently unveiled by Xiaomi as a concept phone with an astounding 180 percent screen-to-body ratio and the mammoth 108MP primary sensor. The Mi MIX Alpha’s display is made of a single piece of flexible OLED panel that is wrapped around the frame to give us such a unique device for the first time. The smartphone has a crazy design and a crazy price tag, but these are not the only remarkable features of the smartphone. Xiaomi claims Mi MIX Alpha is the product of two years of research and cost $70 million (about Rs 500 crores) to make and required the talents of over 1,000 engineers. Let’s take a look at everything you need to about the new Xiaomi concept smartphone.
Mi MIX Alpha is all about the Surround Display
The highlight of the Mi MIX Alpha is the wraparound screen, which the company calls Surround Display. It uses a single piece of flexible OLED panel that is wrapped around the chassis, eliminating the need of the usual metal frame for the edges.
The all-screen design is interrupted by the strip that houses the cameras
The Mi MIX Alpha is all-display on the front, while the back panel is home to the triple rear cameras.
Mi MIX Alpha uses titanium alloy
The frame above and below the display is made using titanium alloy, which the company claims keeps the handset light yet durable.
Ceramic and sapphire glass too
The strip that houses the triple rear cameras is made using ceramic, while the lenses are covered by sapphire glass to ensure the lenses don't get scratched.
World's first phone with 108MP camera
Mi MIX Alpha is the world's first smartphone with a 108MP sensor, which has f/1.69 aperture, OIS, and laser autofocus. It is backed by a 20MP wide-angle sensor with 117-degree field of view and a 12MP telephoto lens.
Mi MIX Alpha doesn't have a selfie camera
There is no dedicated selfie camera setup on the Mi MIX Alpha. Instead, users can capture selfies using the primary camera setup, which is headlined by the 108MP sensor.
No physical buttons on Mi MIX Alpha
The Mi MIX Alpha obviously doesn't have physical buttons on the sides; instead, it uses virtual buttons for power and volume controls located on the edge. Even the battery indicator etc are placed on the edges.
Mi MIX Alpha can identify false touches
When the Mi MIX Alpha is held from the back, the mis-touch detection technologies kick in, ensure no false touch is registered on the all-screen phone.
Mi MIX Alpha offers industry-leading specifications
Mi MIX Alpha specifications include the Snapdragon 855 Plus processor, 5G support, 12GB RAM, 512GB UFS 3.0 storage, and 4,050mAh battery with 40W fast-charging.
And a price to match!
The Mi MIX Alpha concept smartphone has been priced at a whopping RMB 19,999 in China, which translates to roughly Rs 2 lakh.
Impressed with everything the concept phone has to offer? Of course, you can get your hands on the device if you are willing to spend nearly Rs 2 lakh, but you will have to get the device from China (whenever it becomes available) as it’s unlikely to ever hit the Indian market.
