The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S11 will be the South Korean brand's next flagship (unless Samsung's decides otherwise). Needless to say, the Samsung Galaxy S11 will come as a successor to the Galaxy S10 series from earlier this year and won't be hitting the shelves till February/ March 2020. However, leaks around the smartphone have already started doing the rounds, giving us a look at what we can look forward to. There have been reports doing rounds that the upcoming S-series flagship from Samsung could be dubbed as Galaxy S20 instead of S11. The Samsung Galaxy S11 series, which will be the direct competitor to Apple's latest iPhone 11 series, is said to be under development with the internal code name Picasso. The chaebol may continue with its three phones strategy, which may be dubbed as Galaxy S11e, Galaxy S11, and Galaxy S11 Plus. The handsets are rumoured to come with a bunch of improvements, in terms of software, cameras, configurations, biometrics, performance, and more.
Starting with the design, the Samsung Galaxy S11 will most likely boast of the same punch-hole display as its predecessor. The hole for the selfie camera, however, would be at the centre of the screen and smaller in size compared to the Galaxy S10 series. All the three S11 models seem to feature a single selfie camera shooter, a camera bump on the rear panel, and glass-sandwiched design.
Moreover, there might be an increase in the number of selfie camera sensors. A new Korean Intellectual Property Office patent listing shows the smartphone might have triple selfie cameras in a hole punched in the display.

It is likely Samsung Galaxy S11 specifications will include a Dynamic AMOLED display with HDR10+ support and an improved ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. Speaking of which, reports are that on Galaxy S11 the fingerprint scanner may work on larger area. The company is reportedly working on the 'Active Area Dimension' (AAD) for the in-display fingerprint sensor on the upcoming flagship series will measure 64 square millimetres – up from 6 square millimetres on the Galaxy S10.
At the Samsung Galaxy S11 series' core may lie Samsung's latest Exynos 990 chipset or Snapdragon 865 SoC, depending on the regions. Contrary to rumours of a 5nm chipset, Samsung's new Exynos 990 is forged using the 7nm process and is said to be 20 percent faster performance compared to its predecessor Exynos 9825. The new SoC is based on a miniaturisation step that employs an advanced chip-etching technology called extreme ultraviolet (EUV). The Exynos 990 supports 120Hz refresh rate screen and a sensor with a 108-megapixel resolution, which may debut on the upcoming Samsung flagships – including Galaxy S11. Other highlights of the phone include Exynos Modem 5123 for 5G connectivity, up to 8K video recording support, an array of cameras (a maximum of six), Mali-G77 MP11 GPU, and dual-NPU cores with DSP.
The phonemaker is expected to ship the handset with up to 12GB of RAM and 1TB storage onboard – the base variant will reportedly pack 128GB storage.
A certification site has spilled the beans on the Galaxy S11 series battery. The standard Galaxy S11 smartphone will reportedly come with a 4,500mAh battery whereas the Galaxy S11e and Galaxy S11 Plus would rock a 3,800mAh battery and a 5,000mAh cell respectively. The capacities are certainly bigger than the Galaxy S10 series. Furthermore, the Galaxy S11 lineup is tipped to come with an impressive 25W fast charging support.
The leaked renders of the Galaxy S11 and Galaxy S11 Plus suggest that they may pack as many as five cameras at the back. The Galaxy S11e, on the other hand, could feature triple rear cameras – up from dual cameras from its predecessor.
As for the Galaxy S11 series camera setup, it could ship with a periscope-style camera setup with 5x optical zoom, ToF lens, and a whopping 108-megapixel sensor. The sensor is believed to be superior to Samsung's ISOCELL Bright HMX, which was launched back in August. It's the first mobile image sensor in the industry to go beyond 100 million pixels and has a large 1/1.33-inch size for better shots in a low-light environment. The sensor also comes with Tetracell technology that allows it to imitate big-pixel sensors, producing brighter 27MP images. The S11 could also feature iPhone 11 Pro-like Deep Fusion technology to further enhance the results.
The Galaxy S11 series may also employ a 48-megapixel telephoto lens. If so, Samsung would lead the high-pixel telephoto lens on any smartphone. The cameras will allegedly be backed by features such as Bright Night sensor, Single Take Photo, Director's View, Night Hyperlapse, Vertical Panoramas, 8K recording, and more.
The Samsung Galaxy S11 series will allegedly come in same colour option as Galaxy Note 10, which is blue, pink, black, and white – with Samsung's Aura branding and run Android 10-based One UI 2.1 out of the box. Lastly, we may see the repeat of 4G and 5G (for select countries) variants of the Galaxy S11 series as well. In fact, all three variants of the handset may get 5G support. The Galaxy S11+ is tipped to feature 5G as standard, while the Galaxy S11e and Galaxy S11 will be available in both LTE and 5G networks.
A new report suggests that the Galaxy S11 could actually make its debut on February 11th. This is against the previous report, which stated the third week of February, with February 18th said to be the likely launch date. This is not too surprising as the brand usually launches its flagship phones just ahead of MWC in Barcelona, which is slated for February 24th to February 27th next year.
